Former Samford defensive line coach Chris Boone was named as the new defensive coordinator by Murray State head football coach Mitch Stewart on Wednesday, while former Racer great Casey Brockman returned home to take over as coach of the quarterbacks.
In addition, Stewart announced that defensive line coach Santos Carrillo will be promoted to assistant head coach, offensive tackles/tight ends coach Gordon Steele will be promoted to offensive line coach/run game coordinator and director of football operation Steve Adams will be promoted to director of recruiting and player personnel.
"When I was hired, I said that defense and finding a top-notch defensive coordinator was the top priority and in Chris, I believe we got our man," said Stewart. "In addition, to hiring Chris, the other moves were no-brainers. Casey is a bright, young coach that knows our system and can immediately make an impact and Santos, Gordon, and Steve are three guys who have worked extremely hard for us and proved they are ready to take the next step in their coaching careers."
Boone comes to Murray after spending one season as the defensive line and special teams coach at Samford. Prior to coaching the Bulldogs, he served as the defensive coordinator at Northwestern State in 2013 and in the same position at Jacksonville State for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Before JSU, Boone spent five seasons at UT Martin where he served as defensive coordinator and secondary coach. Other stops in his coaching career have included Southern Mississippi, Pearl River CC, Wayne County (Miss.) High School, UAB, Arkansas-Monticello and Nicholls State.
While at Jacksonville State, his defense led the OVC in 2011 in interceptions with 17, rush defense at 144.9 yards per game, third down conversion percentage at 67 and scoring defense at 24.8 points per game. At UT Martin, he had two of his defenses finish as one of the best in the country at sixth in 2006 and 12th in 2010.
In 2006, Boone's defense finished sixth in multiple categories including total defense, scoring defense, rush defense, pass defense and pass efficiency defense. In 2010, the Skyhawk defense led the OVC in pass defense, pass efficiency defense, fewest first downs allowed and third down conversion defense.

One of the most prolific quarterbacks in Murray State history, Brockman returns to Murray State after spending a year at Middle Tennessee as a graduate assistant. Prior to his move to Murfreesboro, he spent the 2012 season with the Racers as a volunteer.
Brockman, quite frankly, is the record book when it comes to MSU quarterbacks, holding program marks for game, season and career in passing yards, attempts, completions and touchdowns. The two-time All-American also holds career records in total offense yards, total offense plays, completion percentage and passing efficiency.
