Redshirt junior quarterback KD Humphries has shown all season that he is one of the best offensive players in the FCS, on Tuesday STATS showed that they agreed by adding him to the 2015 STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year watch list.
Humphries now joins the 19 previous players that have been named to the list thus far this season, as well the five other players that were named with him on Tuesday, as candidates for the first-year award that will serve as the top award for an FCS offensive player in 2015. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote for the national honor next week. The top three vote-getters from the 25 finalists will then be invited to the STATS FCS Awards Banquet on Jan. 8 in Frisco, Texas, where the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year will be named.
The Montgomery, Alabama native has had an outstanding year under center for the Racers where he currently leads the nation in passing yards with 3,492, passing yards per game at 349.2, completions at 308 and attempts at 487. In addition, he also leads the nation at 30.8 completions per game, a category he also led in the final FCS statistics of 2014. Humphries has thrown 21 touchdown passes this season compared to just six interception, with just two of those coming against FCS competition. He also passed for at least 300 yards in eight of 10 games, including throwing for a career-high 491 against Tennessee Tech.
On Saturday, Humphries will lead the FCS's second best passing attack and ninth best offense against the No. 1 team in the land, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Kick-off for MSU's season finale at Burgess-Snow Field in Jacksonville, Alabama is scheduled for 1 p.m.
