Dean Earns OVC Specialist of the Week Honors

Senior Zach Dean was named as the adidas® OVC Specialist of the Week for week 10 of the season Sunday, the league office announced. This is the third specialist of the week honor of the season for the Racers and the fifth overall weekly honor, with Landon Stratton, Elijah Daniel, Demetrius Mason and Janawski Davis also earning accolades this season. In addition, on Monday, Dean was named was named as an honorable mention selection for the STATS FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.Â
The Salem, Alabama native blocked not one, but two extra points in Saturday's overtime win at Tennessee State. The second block by Dean was picked up by Shawn Samuels-Connell and run back 98 yards for two points on the botched PAT.
The four point swing caused by Dean, the two missed extra points and the defensive extra points, directly led to the Murray State win as the two teams were tied at the end of regulation at 40. However, if not for Dean, the Tigers would have walked away with a 42-38 victory in regulation.
Dean and teammates will return home to Stewart Stadium for the final time this season when 18th-ranked Eastern Kentucky comes to town. Kick-off at The Track is set for 1 p.m.
