Humphries Finishes 7th In STATS Offensive POY Vote
12/1/2015 11:39:00 AM | Football
After a record-breaking season as QB1 for the Murray State football team, KD Humphries found himself amongst the nation's elite on Tuesday when it was announced that he finished seventh in the voting for the 2015 STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Award.
Despite not finishing in the top three, which now advance to the STATS award ceremony on Jan. 8 in Frisco, Texas, the seventh place finish was extremely impressive for the redshirt junior, especially considering he was one of the final six names added to the 25-player ballot a week before voting. Humphries appeared on 32 ballots and received 98 total points, including six first-place votes, eight second-place votes, six third-place votes, six fourth-place votes and six fifth-place votes.
Voting was done by a national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries. Humphries came in just one spot behind fellow All-OVC selection quarterback Eli Jenkins of Jacksonville State, while Illinois State's Marshaun Coprich, Lamar's Kade Harrington and Eastern Washington's Cooper Krupp were the top three vote-getters.
The Montgomery, Alabama native had an outstanding year under center for the Racers where he currently leads the nation in passing yards with 3,778, passing yards per game at 343.5, completions at 330 and attempts at 532. The 3,778 yards was not only the best in the FCS this season, but it was a new single-season high for a Murray State quarterback, breaking the previous mark of 3,729 set by Casey Brockman in 2012.
In addition, he also leads the nation at 30.0 completions per game, a category he also led in the final FCS statistics of 2014. Humphries threw 22 touchdown passes this season compared to just seven interceptions, with just three of those coming against FCS competition. He also passed for at least 300 yards in eight of 11 games, including throwing for a career-high 491 against Tennessee Tech.
