Racers Take Share Of Second At Nichols Event

The Murray State men's golf team came home with a second place finish at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tenn.

The Racers fired their low round of the event in Monday's first round with a 280. They followed with 297 and 284 to share second place with Southern Illinois at 861.

Jared Gosser landed a spot on the All-Tournament team with a third place showing. Gosser carded scores of 69-74-67=210. Brock Simmons placed 20th on scores of 71-73-73=217, while Duncan McCormick was 24th on rounds of 74-75-69=218. Preston French placed 39th with scores of 71-75-75=221, while Jordan Smith had scores of 69-75-79=223 and finished in 49th place.

Matthew Zakutney played the event as an individual and placed was 32nd with scores of 75-75-69=219.

Jacksonville State was the winner at 852 with the Racers and SIU (861), West Georgia (866) and Tennessee Tech 867 making up the top five in the field of 15 teams.

The Racers get back on the course (March 26-27) at the Spring Break Invitational hosted by Florida Atlantic. The 54-hole event will be played on the course at Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla.
