Inside the Series
The Racers finally get to open their 2015 home slate this weekend in a three-game set against rival Austin Peay. MSU was originally scheduled to have played 15 games already at Reagan Field but due to all the snow in Murray, the Racers were relocated. The Racers swept all three games against the Governors last season in Clarksville, Tenn. Prior to that, APSU had won five consecutive games in the series. Murray State is 52-33 all-time at home against the Governors.
Midweek Losses
Both teams lost their non-conference midweek matchups this week as the Racers lost 15-2 Wednesday at Evansville. Austin Peay lost in Knoxville to Tennessee 3-0 on Tuesday. Nick Moore had a pair of hits in the MSU loss to the Purple Aces while Tyler Lawrence drove-in his team-high 16th RBI of the season in the contest.
Scouting Austin Peay
The Governors are led by Garrett Copeland and Alex Robles who are both hitting .339 on the season. AP has five players hitting .317 or better on the season. Robles leads the team with 17 RBIs in 2015 while Copeland leads the squad with 17 runs scored. Clayton Smithson's three home runs is tops on the Governors.
Robles is also one of Austin Peay's best pitchers this season as he is tied for the team lead with two saves and has a 3.80 ERA while making six appearances and three starts on the mound. John Sparks hasn't allowed a run in seven innings of work while Levi Primasing has a 2.70 ERA, a save and is 2-0 overall. Caleb Powell leads the Governors with three wins this season while Jared Carkuff's 27.1 innings pitched leads the squad.
As a team, Austin Peay is 23-for-31 on stolen base attempts while three players lead with four steals each. The Governors are led by legendary Head Coach Gary McClure.
