The Murray State softball team split Saturday's doubleheader at Belmont by blanking the host Bruins, 9-0, in five innings in game one, but falling, 7-3, in game two.
In game one, the Racers (14-10, 2-3 OVC) poured on the offense in the game pounding out 11 hits, compared to just five by the Bruins (6-17, 1-3 OVC). CheyAnne Gaskey improved to 7-5 on the year in the complete game shutout, while walking just two and striking out three.
Maggie Glass came up big for MSU in the contest by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run on two singles and her eighth home run of the season. Jocelyn Rodgers was 2-for-3 in the game with a run, two RBIs and double, while Jessica Twaddle was also 2-for-3 with three runs, a RBI and a double.
In game two, Alexa Becker started the Racers off on the right foot by sending a double to left center. Mo Ramsey then advanced her teammate with a sacrifice bunt, followed by a sacrifice fly from Twaddle to put MSU on the board, 1-0.
However, Belmont battled back in the bottom of the frame in a big way by scoring three runs on three hits to take a 3-1 lead. In the second, Belmont added three more runs  this time tallying two hits and capitalizing on a MSU error. In the fourth, Chelsey Deloney made it 7-1, when she blasted a home run to center field with two outs.
Murray State scored two run on a Belmont error in the seventh, but could not further capitalize and fell, 7-3. The Racers only had four hits in the contest, due in large part to the defense of Belmont and the fact that every out recorded by the Bruins, save one, was done so in the field.
Alexa Becker and Shelbey Miller each had doubles in the contest, while Mallory Young and Cayla Levins each had singles. Mason Robinson fell to 7-3 on the season with the loss, after allowing five earned runs on four hits with three walks and no strikeouts in one inning of work. J. J. Francis was solid in relief for MSU, giving up just one run on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts over five innings.
The Racers will return home Sunday to continue OVC play when they host Tennessee State in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
