Schedule Change
The weekend series between the Racers and Panthers has been changed slightly. The two teams will now play the first game of the three-game set at 1 p.m. Saturday and will play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon. The series was originally scheduled for Friday through Sunday.
Inside the Series
The Racers have lost nine of their last 10 meetings against EIU and are looking for their first win in Charleston since 2011. This weekend's games will be the first at home this season for the Panthers. MSU lost 2-of-3 last season to EIU in Murray, winning game two in the series 4-3. Anthony Bayus went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and scored the game-winning run in the victory.
Last Weekend
Murray State won 2-of-3 in its home-opening series against Austin Peay last weekend, winning game one 4-3 and rallying to take game three 6-4 to improve its conference record to 4-5. The Panthers were swept last week at Jacksonville State.
15 K's
The Racer pitching staff recorded a season-high 15 strikeouts in the loss against Arkansas State Tuesday. It was the most punch-outs in a single game for MSU since 2012 against Central Arkansas when the Racers struck-out 20 batters in a 17-inning contest.
Harris Goes Long
Pokey Harris recorded his first career home run against the Red Wolves on Tuesday. Harris led-off the bottom of the first inning with a solo blast to left center field. It was also Harris' first career extra-base hit.
Scouting Eastern Illinois
The Panthers are looking for their first win of the season this weekend against the Racers, EIU is led offensively by Demetre Taylor's .313 batting average. He is the only Panther batting above .300 so far this season.
Brant Valach leads the team with three home runs and nine RBIs this season while Caleb Howell's nine runs scored is tops in 2015. EIU doesn't run much as it is just 6-for-11 on stolen base attempts this season. Six Panthers have a steal each.
