This Weekend Action
Murray State looks to keep its five-game OVC win streak and seven-game home win streak alive when they host Southeast Missouri in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
Last Time Out
Murray State dropped both games of a doubleheader to Western Kentucky Wednesday in Bowling Green. In game one, MSU ran up against USA Softball National Player of the Year finalist Miranda Kramer who struck out 15 Racers and yielded just three hits. In the seventh, Murray State finally got on the board in the seventh with a home run from Cayla Levins, but it was not enough as WKU held on for the 5-1 win.
In game two, the Racers led the entire game, but gave up three runs in the seventh as the Lady Toppers stole game two for the doubleheader sweep. Shelbey Miller went 3-for-4 in the game, while Jocelynn Rodgers was 1-for-3 with a home run. Mo Ramsey and Maggie Glass were each one for two in the contest with a pair of walks and a run, with Glass also adding a double and a RBI.

Series History vs. Southeast Missouri
The Racers currently lead Southeast Missouri 9-5 in the all-time series and are 6-2 against the Redhawks at home. Last season, the Racers took the first two games of the series in Cape Girardeau, but SEMO avoided the sweep by winning the finale. The last time the two teams met in Murray, they each took one game of a rain-shortened series.
Scouting The Redhawks
Southeast Missouri is currently 10-18 on the season after defeating Southern Illinois Wednesday in 10 innings to give first-year head coach Mark Redburn his 100th career victory. Last weekend, SEMO got itself back in the postseason picture by going 3-0 against Tennessee State and Belmont and is currently 5-7 in OVC play.
Kayla Fortner currently leads the Redhawks with a .430 average to go along with team-highs of 23 runs, 23 walks, 11 home runs and 36 RBIs. As a team, SEMO is batting .294, while its opponents are hitting .345.
In the circle, the Redhawk staff has a 5.79 ERA, is averaging 2.8 strikeouts per seven innings and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 0.9:1. SEMO's ace this season has been Madeline Kumrey who is 7-6 in 18 appearances and 15 starts with a 4.19 ERA, a team-high 54 strikeouts and an opponent's average of .318.
Gaskey Honored
CheyAnne Gaskey went 3-0 on the week with two solo shutouts and an ERA of 0.82 to be named OVC Player of the Week. The senior struck out at least five batters in each game and fanned a season-high nine against EKU. She walked just six batters on the week to finish with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.33:1. Gaskey also allowed just two hits to go for extra bases on the week and hit just one batter.
Record Runs
With two runs in game one against EKU, Alexa Becker is now make the school's all-time leader in runs, currently with 133. She currently is also MSU's leader in all-time doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs.
Racer RPI
After going 5-0 last week, the Racers moved up 16 spots in the latest RPI from 123 to 107. Murray State is still the third-highest team in the OVC behind SIUE (41) and Jacksonville State (80).
Have Mercy
So far this season, MSU has won eight games via the eight-run rule, the most for any Kara Amundson coached team. The school record stands at nine in a season and was set in 2012.
Double Down
Murray State dropped to second nationally in double plays per game in the latest statistical rankings at 0.78 with 23 in 34 games. Utah Valley now leads at 0.75 per game with 30 in 40 games.
Next Up
The Racers will head south for a crucial four games with doubleheaders at Jacksonville State, who is currently second in the OVC standings, and Tennessee Tech, who is tied with the Racers in for third.
