First To 50
With her relief win on Sunday against SEMO, CheyAnne Gaskey is now the first pitcher in Murray State history to reach the 50 win plateau. Gaskey became the program's all-time win leader earlier this season when she passed former teammate Shelby Kosmecki, who had 40.
Turning The Corner
Prior to last weekend's series against Southeast Missouri, the Racers were just 3-6 in games decided by only one run. However, the Racers dug deep in all three games to win each by a walk-off by just one run.
Leaders Of The Pack
Two Racers currently lead the OVC in a pair of major offensive statistical categories. Jessica Twaddle currently sports the league's best batting average at .434, while Alexa Becker has score the most runs at 39.
Racer RPI
A three-game sweep of SEMO last week, helped move the Racers from 107 to 98 in the latest RPI. This marks just the third time school history that MSU has cracked the top 100 in the rankings. SIUE still leads all OVC teams at 42, but the gap between the Racers and Jacksonville State continued to grow smaller, with the Gamecocks clocking in at 89.
Double Down
Murray State currently ranks third nationally in double plays per game in the latest statistical rankings at 0.62 with 24 in 39 games. Utah Valley now leads at 0.75 per game with 33 in 44 games.
So Close, Yet...
Freshman Haven Campbell took a no-hit bid in to he seventh inning on Sunday against SEMO until it was tragically broken up by a Kayla Fortner home run. The 6.0 innings without a hit is believed to be the longest a Racer pitcher has taken a no-no bid since the last MSU no-hitter in March of 2012 by Chelsey Sullivan. Campbell's no-hitter would have been the first to go a full seven innings, as each of the other two in MSU history, both by Sullivan, were just five innings.
Next Up
The Racers will travel north for their annual non-conference meeting with regional rival Evansville. Tuesday's doubleheader at Cooper Stadium is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
