Linebacker Travis Taylor and offensive lineman Kamalie Matthews of the Murray State football team have signed undrafted rookie free agency deals with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks, respectively. Taylor and Matthews will both report to their respective rookie minicamp on Friday.
"I couldn't be happier for Travis and Kamalie," said head coach Mitch Stewart. "They are shining examples of just how far hard work and dedication can take an individual. They are great players, better people and we wish them all the success in the world at the next level."
Taylor had a brief, but brilliant two-year career with Murray State after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. In 2014, Taylor was second in the OVC in solo tackles per game at 6.1, second in tackles for loss per game at 1.4 and fourth in total tackles per game at 10.6.
He finished his senior season with 106 total tackles, 14.0 for a total loss of 56 yards and 3.0 sacks for a total loss of 18 yards. Over two complete seasons, Taylor made 165 total tackles including 98 solo, 23.5 for loss at a total of 93 yards and 7.5 sacks for total loss of 41 yards.
Matthews played three years for Murray State after transferring from Hutchinson CC. He blocked for the third best passing attack in the nation at 327.2 yards per game and the 15th best overall offense at 468.3 yards. He also helped allow quarterback KD Humprhies to get off the most completions per game in all of FCS at 26.6 per game.
