Head coach Mitch Stewart and juniors KD Humphries and Jonathan Jackson helped kick-off the 2015 football season Monday at the annual OVC Media Day in Nashville. The trio answered questions from local media and other league outlets in advance of the upcoming season.
Also at the event, senior wide receiver Janawski Davis, Jackson and senior return specialist Pokey Harris were each named to the 2015 Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference Football Team, as voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Davis, a native of Eight Mile, Alabama, led the MSU receiving corps on the season with 13 touchdowns on 909 total yards for an average of 14.4 yards per reception and 75.8 yard per game. He led the OVC in touchdown receptions and is seventh in all of the FCS. Davis started all 12 games for the Racers in 2014 and led the team in catches of 20-yards or more with 19, including seven for touchdowns and a long of 75.
Davis' 13 receiving touchdowns will go down as the second most in a single-season in program history, while his total yards rank as the ninth best. Prior to this season, only three Racers had ever caught 13 or more touchdown passes in a season; Billy Hess with 13 in 1968, Walter Powell also with 13 in 2013, while Terrance Tillman caught a program record 14 in 1999.
Jackson played and started in 11 games and led team with 134 tackles. His 12.2 tackles per game led the OVC in 2014 and was the fourth highest total in all of the FCS. He also led the OVC in solo tackles and was eighth in the nation with 6.1 per game and 67 total.
In addition, the Mayfield product, made 8.0 tackles for a loss of 17 yards and 2.5 sacks for a loss of seven yards. He also had one fumble recovery, one quarterback hurry and a pass breakup on the year. In the season opener against Union (Ky.), Jackson returned a failed PAT for two points.

Harris was one of the top returners in FCS last season, taking back a nation-leading three kick-off returns for touchdowns and finishing sixth in the nation in yards per return at 28.8, both of which also led the OVC. In addition, Harris finished 2014 second in the OVC and 23rd in the country in all-purpose yards at 138.4 per game and first in the OVC and seventh in all of the FCS in total return yards at 920.
The Winchester, Kentucky native made history at EIU when he became the first Racer ever to return a kick-off 100 yards for a touchdown. One week later he repeated the feat at EKU, becoming the third-ever OVC player with two 100-yard returns for a touchdown and the first-ever to do it in consecutive games.
