The Murray State women's soccer team takes on Louisiana Tech and Middle Tennessee State Friday and Sunday, in their first weekend playing at home.
The Racers are coming off a tough 3-0 loss at Tennessee Sunday. Harriet Withers led the team in shots with three, but the Racers couldn't find a groove to convert on the offense.
Friday, MSU will face Louisiana Tech for the second time in program history. In the 2010 matchup, the Racers were defeated by the Lady Techsters, 3-1.
Louisiana Tech will come into Cutchin Field after a winning weekend. In their most recent match, the Lady Techsters defeated Nicholls State 4-1. Senior Brittany Beddow scored goals within the first two minutes and the last ten minutes to lift Louisiana Tech to a victory. Taylor Douglas was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after recording a goal in Tech's 7-1Â victory against Grambling State and a goal in the match against Nicholls State.
On Sunday, the Racers will meet the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee for the sixth time in program history. In all five of the previous matches, Murray State has been unable to pull out a win.
The two teams met last season Racers for 90 minutes of regulation, with neither being able to score a goal. With only 1:17 left in the first overtime, MTSU scored the game winning goal, pushing the Blue Raiders past the Racers. Shelby Haworth was in goal for the match, racking up five saves for the match.
MTSU is coming off a weekend tournament where the team went 1-1. The Blue Raiders were defeated for the first time in 2015 against Indiana, where they were shutout 2-0. Middle Tennessee bounced back later in the weekend to beat Ball State, 1-0. All of the Blue Raiders victories have been shutouts by goalkeeper Kelsey Brouwer, as she has 16 saves for the season and a goal allowed average of 0.39.
