For freshman, including myself, we see a lot of "firsts".
Â
It might be the first time being away from home, the first day of classes, first big test, or for me particularly, my first report for OVC Extra.
Â
My name is Sydney Owen and I am a Freshman. Even though I have been on campus a short time, I am the OVC Extra Campus Correspondent.
Â
Some of these "firsts" we experience can be a scary experience. However, President Dr. Bob Davies wanted to ensure that the first experience the new MSU students got with Racer Athletics was a positive one and this is why he started the Gold Rush in 2014.
Â
For the second year in a row, students were given the opportunity to participate in The Gold Rush, a tradition started by Dr. Davies himself.
Â
Just minutes before the Racer Football Team kicked off their season against Kentucky Wesleyan (Sep. 3), a sea of freshman, all wearing gold shirts, lined up in the end zone. Then, with Dr. Davies leading the way, the freshmen rushed the field, running from one end zone to another to celebrate the beginning of a new, exciting season. I can't think of a better way to welcome the freshmen to Murray than uniting them and making them feel like a part of Murray's outstanding athletic program.
Â
Once the game began, we had the best view in the entire stadium. We were right in the end zone and had a blast cheering the Racers to victory.
Â
The Gold Rush was a great experience and a great way to officially welcome the new students to the Racer family and show them what Racer pride is all about.
Â
I was proud to be part of the 2015 Gold Rush and here's my first report!
