The Murray State women's golf team bought home a fourth place showing and Moa Folke second-place at the Chris Banister Golf Classic. The three-day event hosted by Jacksonville State wrapped up Tuesday at Silver Lakes Golf Club in Glencoe, Alabama.
The Racers fired rounds of 308-313-306=927 and finished between the two Ohio Valley Conference squads they often battle, Morehead State (925) and Jacksonville State (929). Troy was the winner at 921.
Folke, a sophomore, was looking for her first collegiate win, but her final round 73 fell short by one shot behind medalist Fatima Cano of Troy. Still, Folke's scores of 73-72-73=218 tied her best 54-hole event with the Racers. Last April, Folke carded a 218 at the Rebel Intercollegiate at Ole Miss.
Other MSU scores included Sophie Hillier and Sydney Trimble who shared 31st place. Hillier had scores of 83-81-74=238 and Trimble 73=82-83=238. Anna Moore placed 36th with rounds of 85-79-76=240, while Abbi Stamper placed 46th with scores of 79-81-84=244.
MSU's Jane Watts placed eighth place in the field of 14 individuals and 57th place overall with scores of 82-85-83=250.
The Racers finished ahead of Jacksonville State (929), Samford (934), UAB (316), South Alabama (948), Alabama State (948), Lipscomb (951), West Alabama (966) and Tennessee State (1034).
Silver Lakes is part of the famed Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. The competitors played the Mindbreaker Course and the Heartbreaker Course at 6,100 yards.
The Racers return to action at the TPC River's Bend Invitational (Oct. 5-6) in Maineville, Ohio.
