Zakutney Leads Racers To 4th Place Showing At APSU

Murray State men's golfer Matthew Zakutney paced the Racers to a fourth place finish Tuesday at the Austin Peay Invitational at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee.

Zakutney posted scores of 73-71-75=219 for an eighth place finish, the senior's best of the fall season.

The Racers' finish in fourth place was shared with Tennessee Tech. Among the seven teams in the event that hail from the Ohio Valley Conference, the Racers were bested by only UT-Martin (884) who finished third.

Missouri State was the winner at 877, ahead of Mercer at 882.

Murray State's Gabe Wheeler placed 20^th with scores of 73-79-72=224, while Avery Edwards placed 31^st on scores of 79-75-73=227. Austin Knight had scores of 79-72-79=230 for a 35^th place finish, while Matthew Winder placed 44^th on scores of 76-77-80=233.

Lance Davis played as an individual for the Racers and placed 54^th on scores of 81-84-75=240.

Austin Peay (905) placed sixth, with New Orleans (906), Belmont (912), Tennessee State (922) and Eastern Illinois (928) rounded out the rest of the field.

Greystone, the course that hosted the OVC Championship from 2010-13, played hard and fast this week to a par-72 and 7,045 yards.

The Racers bring the fall season to an end (Oct. 31-Nov. 1) at the Samford Intercollegiate. The two day event will be contested at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
