First Pitch
The Racers open the 2016 season with a three-game series in the Sunshine State as Murray State will face-off with Bethune-Cookman. MSU is in its second season under Head Coach Kevin Moulder. The Racers went 16-40 in 2015 in Moulder's debut season.
Inside The Series
This weekend's series will be the first-ever matchups between the Racers and Wildcats. It will also be the first matchup all-time for MSU against a school from the MEAC and just the second time that the Racers have faced a school from the state of Florida (Miami, 1975).
New Faces
The Racers feature 22 new players to this season's roster, nine of which are freshman and 13 are transfer student-athletes. MSU will also have a new face in the dugout as Grayson Crawford joins the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant in 2016.
Preseason OVC
Junior Tyler Lawrence was named to the Preseason All-OVC Team after earning second team honors a season ago. MSU was picked to finish 9th in the conference in the preseason league poll, voted on by the league's coaches and SIDs.
Scouting Bethune-Cookman
The Wildcats were picked to finish second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason poll. BCU also placed five student-athletes on the All-Preseason Team. They include pitcher Clint Clymer and Alex Seibold, shortstop Demetrius Sims, Outfielder Nathan Bond and third baseman Jameel Edney.
Clymer was a First Team All-MEAC selection in 2015 as he recorded eight saves and an ERA of 3.98 for the Wildcats last season. Bond was a second team honoree last year after leading the team with a .326 batting average and 84 total bases. Bond collected 70 hits, scored 30 runs and had 23 RBIs in 2015. The Wildcats also return their leading RBI man from 2015 in Austin Garcia who drove-in 29 last season.
However, BCU must replace Jordan Robinson who led the team with 17 extra-base hits last year. BCU also must replace seven-game winner Keith Zuniga off of last year's squad, but return Joseph Calamita who led the team with a 2.38 ERA.
Probable Pitching Matchups
Game one: Jack Hranec (L) (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Alex Seibold (R) (5-5, 5.05 ERA)
Game two: Austin Dubsky (R) (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. German Hernandez (R) (1-2, 7.27 ERA)
Game three: Andrew Bramley (R) (0-4, 7.56 ERA) vs. Tyler Norris (L) (3-5, 4.31 ERA)
