2016 Spring Practice: Offensive Line
4/11/2016 2:54:00 PM | Football
GoRacers.com continues to cover Murray State football's 2016 spring camp and now focuses on the offensive line. Last season, the Racer o-line anchored one of the most prolific offensives in the country. Murray State amassed 5,127 yards last season or 466.1 yards per game, which ranked them 12th in the nation. As pass blockers, the MSU offensive line helped the Racers produced the second-best passing game in the nation last season, hurling for 3,820 yards in the air for 347.3 per game
Key Losses – The Racers will be operating their offensive line this season without two key components from 2015, Hunter Kingston and Corey Gammon. Gammon will be especially hard to replace as he served as the Racers' center during his final two seasons.
Key Returners – The good news for Murray State is it will have the services of four players that started the majority of games last season. Chris White and Kwan Stallworth both had successful freshman campaigns for the blue and gold, while Memphis transfer Tony Mays II came in and made an immediate impact. Joe Irby also returns healthy in 2016, after missing the last two games of 2015 due to injury.
Key Newcomers – Head Coach Mitch Stewart has added five offensive linemen for the fall, including two junior college transfers. Rangel Lowery will come to Murray from Diablo Valley in California where he played on a line that averaged 348.5 yards per game last year. Meanwhile, Ryan Rainey, a transfer from Pearl River CC, arrived on campus in January and is currently going through spring practice with the Racers.
