Colonels End Racers Hopes for Third Straight TItle

The dream of a OVC Tournament three-peat ended on Friday for the Murray State women's tennis team as Eastern Kentucky topped the Racers 4-1 in the first round of the OVC Tournament.
MSU came out fighting in the doubles matches. Partners Haily Morgan and Erin Patton won their sixth straight doubles match as they defeated the Colonels 6-4. At the No. 2 doubles court, partners Alina Schibol and Jeanne Masson fought for every point, keeping it close with the Colonels. Ultimately, EKU got the best of the duo as they won the set 6-4. The doubles point came down to the No. 3 court. After being down 5-4, Megan Blue and Amina Hadzic rallied to continue the match. The Colonels came out on top in the end as they beat the pair 7-5 to take the early 1-0 lead.
In the singles matches, the Racers found themselves even with the Colonels early. A default by EKU, due to injury, at the No. 6 singles court evened the match 1-1. Unfortunately for the Racers, it would be the only match they would win. Patton's five match winning streak came to a halt as the senior was defeated at the No. 4 singles court 6-2, 6-2. Blue was the next to fall as she was defeated in her match 6-0, 6-4. A double fault on match point at the No 2 singles sealed the match and the Racers fate as Hadzic was defeated 6-2, 6-4. Morgan and Schibol's matches were unfinished.
Murray State finishes the season with an overall 11-10 record and a 6-5 record against conference opponents. The Racers lose seniors Megan Blue, Erin Patton, and Suzaan Stoltz with the conclusion of the season.Â
