Murray State head women's basketball coach Rob Cross has announced the promotion of Keiona Kirby to assistant coach with the Racers basketball program. Kirby spent the 2015-16 season as a graduate assistant with the team.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to give another former student-athlete a chance to begin their coaching career as a Racer," said Cross.
"Coach Kirby has already shown tremendous work ethic, loyalty and great character as a player and graduate assistant coach. She will be an outstanding addition to our staff and is totally committed to helping our student-athletes grow on and off of the court."
During her career at MSU, Kirby appeared in 102 games and made 39 starts from 2011-15. For her career, Kirby averaged 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. In her junior and senior seasons, Kirby averaged a team-high 18.3 and 15.8 points per game, respectively.
"I'm extremely excited and blessed to be given this opportunity," said Kirby.
"I'm grateful to coach Cross for giving me this chance and for seeing how badly I wanted this position. Last but not least, I would like to thank my entire family for standing behind me and encouraging me during this process. They mean the world to me. I'm blessed."
The Jackson, Tenn., native graduated from MSU in 2015 with a degree in outdoor and community recreation and is currently pursuing her master's in human development and leadership.
