Women's Basketball Releases 2016-17 Slate

The golden anniversary season of Murray State women's basketball features an exciting 29-game schedule for the Racers, including 14 dates at the CFSB Center.
"With all five starters from last season returning and over 80 percent of our scoring and rebounding back, we are looking forward to tipping off in November to begin our quest to compete for an OVC Championship," said Head Coach Rob Cross.
The Racers open the season with back-to-back home contests as Eureka (Ill.) College comes to Murray for the season opener Nov. 11. Three days later, the Racers will host Alabama A&M at "The Bank" before hitting the road to face Southern Illinois Nov. 17.
Prior to Thanksgiving, the Racers will host UNC Greensboro and Lipscomb Nov. 20 and 22, respectively before traveling to Ohio on Nov. 26 and East Tennessee State Nov. 28. The Racers open the month of December by hosting the Purple Aces of Evansville on the 4th and travel to Northern Kentucky Dec. 10 before returning home to face MacMurray (Ill.) Dec. 12.
"Much like last year, the schedule is highlighted by tough regional opponents," said Cross.
"With Evansville and Lipscomb coming to the CFSB Center and a trip up to SIU, our fans will get a chance to enjoy those rivalries. We are excited to have put together a challenging non-conference slate for the upcoming season and we feel that it will help prepare our team for the challenges of the OVC schedule."
The Racers close the first semester with a trip to Kansas for the Wichita State Tournament where they will face Incarnate Word (Dec. 16) and Abilene Christian (Dec. 17) before heading into Christmas Break with a trip to Mississippi Valley State Dec. 21.
MSU opens OVC play by ringing in the New Year with a Dec. 31 contest at the CFSB Center against Tennessee State. The Racers then travel to face Jacksonville State Jan. 5 and Tennessee Tech Jan. 7 before returning to Murray for a Jan. 11 contest against Eastern Illinois.
The Racers begin a three-game road trip Jan. 14 when they face SIU Edwardsville and will also travel to play Austin Peay (Jan. 21) and Southeast Missouri (Jan. 25) before closing January at home against UT Martin on the 28th.
On Feb. 1 the Racers travel east to face Morehead State before returning home for a three-game homestand where they will host Belmont (Feb. 4), Eastern Kentucky (Feb. 6) and Austin Peay (Feb. 11). A trip to Eastern Illinois is on tap Feb. 15, followed by back-to-back home contests against SIUE (Feb. 18) and SEMO (Feb. 22). MSU closes the regular season with a trip to three-time defending OVC Champion UT Martin Feb. 25.
The OVC Tournament will be held March 1-4 and will once again be at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville. Last season, the Racers became the first No. 8 seed to defeat the top seed when they defeated UTM, 78-76.
