Football Opens 2016 Fall Camp

The Murray State football team officially kicked off its 2016 season Friday morning with the first practice of fall camp.
With the loss of 22 seniors to graduation, 46 new faces were on hand for the opening of the camp. One of the largest pools of new players was at the wide receiver position, where 10 new Racers and six returners will look to help replace the over 2,500 yards lost due to the graduation of last year's top three receivers.
Apart from the influx of new talent, there was another noticeable change at Friday's practice: the return of white helmets. The Racers wore white helmets in the last few years at Cutchin Field and during the first years at Stewart Stadium, but have not worn them since 1978.
"They are kind of a throwback," said Stewart. "It's just something new and something fresh. We may even have a couple of new jerseys to show everybody this year. We haven't even shown our players yet, so maybe that will part of our fall camp festivities at night. They say 'if you look good, you feel good and if you feel good, you play good', so hopefully we can keep that momentum going."
