Racers Take To The Road For SEMO & UTM

The Murray State Racers hit the road for the first time in the Ohio Valley Conference season with a Friday 7 p.m. match at Southeast Missouri State and a 2 p.m. Sunday tilt at UT Martin. The Racers play the Redhawks in Houck Stadium in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and UTM in Martin, Tennessee.
The Racers are coming off a thrilling 3-2 home win on Sunday over Morehead State. The Racers got first half goals from Harriet Withers and Taylor Richerson, but after the Eagles tied it, MSU needed another from Cori Cain with two minutes left to get the win. It was a day of firsts, as Withers and Emma Heise each recorded their first assists of the season. Additionally, Richerson scored her first goal of the season and Cain's goal was her first at Murray State.
With the Morehead State win, the Racers take a 13-game OVC regular season win streak into the match. MSU's last loss was 2014 at home to Belmont 2-0. Â The Racers won the last game of 2014 UTM 1-0 and then then went 10-0 in 2015. The win over the Eagles, MSU head coach Jeremy Groves is 3-0 in OVC openers.
2015 OVC Player of the Year Harriet Withers scored her fourth goal this season in the Morehead State game . Now with 20 in her MSU career, she is sixth all time at MSU.
The Racers' match at SEMO Fri is a rematch of the OVC Tournament title game from last November.
SEMO started OVC play with a split of two road games. The Redhawks won at Eastern Illinois 1-0, but lost Sunday at SIUE 2-0.
UTM enters the weekend on a three-game losing skid after their overtime loss at Eastern Illinois by a 1-0 score.Â
The Racers are back at home (Oct. 5) against Tennessee Tech and (Oct. 9) to face Eastern Kentucky.
