Murray State Athletics is sad to announce that assistant women's basketball coach Tony Cross was recently diagnosed with cancer. Cross has been an assistant for the Racers since 2010. Prior to arriving in Murray, Cross was the head coach at Belmont where he won 544 career games in 26 seasons with the Bruins.
"Tony has not only been an assistant coach for the past six years at MSU, but has been a friend for 20 years," said Head Coach Rob Cross.
"He is already fighting this disease with the same drive and determination that he has shown as a basketball coach. He won over 600 games in his coaching career and will fight and win his battle with cancer. We ask all of the Racer Family to lift Tony and his wife Lois up in prayer."
"Coach Cross understands that there are a lot of people that will want to lift him and his wife up during this difficult time, so he graciously allowed us to make this statement regarding his condition," said Director of Athletics Allen Ward.
"He's part of our family and we care for him and Lois very much. Our only concern is for Tony's well-being and giving him every opportunity to make a full recovery."
Cross will remain on staff at MSU and will help with the program when he is able during the season.
