Pair Of Quarterbacks To Join Racers In January

Murray State head football coach Mitch Stewart has announced the addition quarterbacks Shuler Bentley and Preston Rice, both of whom will enroll in classes beginning in January. Bentley is a transfer from Old Dominion, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, while Rice will join the Racers directly from high school as an early graduate.
Bentley, a redshirt junior, spent three years at Old Dominion where he played in 12 games over two seasons, including starting eight games in 2015. In his career with the Monarchs, the Duncan, S.C. native, was 144-for-279 for 1,498 yards with 12 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Prior to ODU, Bentley, a four-star rated recruit by 247Sports, was a two-time South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year at Byrnes High School. During his senior year for the Rebels, Bentley passed for over 5,000 yards en route to being named as a Parade All-American honorable mention.
Rice comes to Murray fresh off a record-breaking career at Wayne County High School where he was a two time finalist and the 2016 winner of the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Class 1A Back award. The Wanyesboro, Tennessee native helped lead the Wildcats to a 13-1 record this past season in which he threw for 3,075 yards and 37 touchdowns and rushed for another 739 yards and 16 touchdowns. He finished his career with over 10,000 yards passing and as the TSSAA record holder for career passing/rushing touchdowns with 141 (93 passing, 48 rushing).
The two quarterbacks join offensive lineman J.R. Burns and defensive lineman Kenney Wooten who signed with the Racers as junior college transfers last month as the first four members of Stewart's 2017 recruiting class.
