In Murray State's recent 80-62 victory over Mississippi Valley State in December, Head Coach Rob Cross moved into the top-10 all-time in career coaching victories in the OVC with his 113th career win. Cross surpassed former Austin Peay coach Susie Gardner's 112 wins.
During his nine seasons at MSU, Cross became the all-time wins leader on Dec. 20, 2014 with a win over Jacksonville. Cross accomplished that feat in over 100 fewer games than the previous record holder. He is one of only two coaches in Racer history to be named OVC Coach of the Year and the only coach to lead the Racers to an OVC regular season championship and also win a postseason national tournament game.
Last season, Cross became the first coach in program history to reach 100 career wins at MSU when the Racers defeated Eastern Illinois, 66-56 on January 27, 2016 at the CFSB Center. This year, the Racers are currently 9-5 overall and have started the conference season 1-0.
"Coach Cross embodies Murray State's rich tradition and history," said MSU Hall of Famer and OVC Player of the Year Ashley N. Hayes.
"I believe it is his passion and perseverance that has brought his greatness as a winning coach. I am proud to have played and worked with Rob."
"When I see the name Rob Cross in the top-10 for OVC career wins, it's not a shocker, it's a perfect fit," said former MSU head coach Jody Adams.
"Rob is a passionate player's coach that gets the best out of each player. He respects the game of basketball and in return his players and the game have blessed him with this honor. His authentic coaching style is fun, competitive, strategic and no doubt laced with stories of the past and life lessons that you will carry with you as a player forever. He not only wins games, he changes lives and that's what this game is about. He's a winner!"
"I want to thank all of the dedicated coaches, student-athletes, managers, SIDs, trainers and athletic department staff I have had the opportunity to work with over the years," said coach Cross.
"A special thank you should go out to my wife Summer and my son Luke, who have both made tremendous sacrifices in order for me to help others achieve their goals. I tell every student-athlete we recruit that my primary focus is to help them grow from promising young adults, into well-rounded women that are prepared for success after basketball."
"The two championships and the games we have won together pale in comparison to the fact that I have had a small hand in helping so many young women achieve their goal of graduating from college over the past 20 years."
