Racers Compete Saturday At OVC Cross Country Championship

After finishing sixth in last years tournament, the Racers are looking to win their first Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country tournament since 1979, as they compete in the 38th women's championship.
Meagan Smith has been leading the way for Murray State, with top-10 finishes at Eastern Illinois and Southern Indiana. Smith is looking to improve on her 23rd place finish from last year's OVC tournament where she finished with a time of 18:08.8.
Rebekah Priddy, who has been right behind Smith this year, is also looking to improve on a top-25 finish from last year. Placing 25th in the OVC Tournament race last season with a time of 18:11.4, Priddy saw her best time this year come at the Louisville Classic at 18:34.83.
The 2017 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship will be run on Saturday at the Panther Trail Course in Charleston, Illinois. The men's 8K race will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT with the women's 5K following at 10 a.m.
It marks the first time Eastern Illinois has hosted the event since 2005. The meet is free and open to the public.
The OVC Athletes and freshmen of the Year, which are determined by coaches vote, will be announced on Friday night at an awards banquet while the Coach of the Year, Athletes of the Championship and All-OVC honors will be presented following Saturday's Championship.
