
CSUN Powers Past Racers In Doubleheader

Game 1 – CSUN 14, Murray State 7
In the opener, the Matadors jumped out an early 6-0 lead thanks to grinding out 10 hits over the first two innings. However, in the third, the Racers responded by leading off the frame with three straight singles and ended up plating three in the inning.
In the fourth inning, Savanna Horvath pushed the lead back out to eight with a three home run to make it 11-3. In the fifth, Jessica Twaddle answered Horvath's three-run shot with one of her own, to bring the deficit back down to five at 11-6. Two batters later, Taylor Odom made it 11-7 with a solo shot, sixth of the year.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Matadors again scored three runs, capping all scoring at 14-7. Murray State had its chances in each of the last two innings, but stranded a runner in each and fell for the third straight time.
Taylor Odom led MSU in the game by going 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI, while Katie Hooper led CSUN by going 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBIs and walk.
Mason Robinson (15-4) took the loss for Murray State by allowing seven runs on eight hits with two walks over 1.2 innings of work. Amber Van Duyse pitched the middle 3.1 innings of the game and allowed six earned runs on seven hits with two walks. Ellison Barrett pitched the final stanza of the game and gave up no runs on just one hit with a walk and a strikeout.
Game 2 – CSUN 11, Murray State 0
In game two, the Racers were shutout for the third time in four games and suffered their fourth consecutive loss. The Matadors used nine hits, including two home runs, to score 11 runs in the game.
Brenna Finck led off the game for Murray State with her fourth triple of the season, setting a new MSU single-season record. However, the Racers were unable to plate Finck or get another hit from that point on and fell 11-0 in five innings.
Haven Campbell (8-4) went 2.0 innings and gave up seven runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout. Barrett once again finished the game and allowed four runs on three hits two walks and two strikeouts over the final two frames.
The Racers return to action Sunday when they open OVC play with a doubleheader against Morehead State at Racer Field at 1 p.m.
