Who's Back?
Mareio McGraw returns to MSU for his sophomore year. In his freshman season, he accumulated 571 yards on 101 attempts as well as six touchdowns during the 2016 season. McGraw averaged 51.9 rushing yards per game, his longest being 77 yards. Along with being a running back, McGraw caught 18 passes for 178 yards, his longest being 67 yards.
Running backs coach Sean Dawkins said, "Last year Mareio McGraw wasn't the guy, he was just a freshman. There wasn't a lot of pressure on him to come in and perform. It just kind of worked out that way due to some injuries, but it's different now because he is the guy." Others returning at running back include Nick Collins, Ethon Felton and Nolan Nichols.
Dawkins added that Nichols and Felton have similar playing styles, as they are bigger backs who can get tough yardage.
Who's in Charge?
Sean Dawkins leads the running backs for the second season. He returns to Murray State for a seventh season, only being broken up by a short tenure at Chattanooga. In 2011, Dawkins coached Mike Harris to the becoming the 10th 1,000-yard rusher in school history.
McGraw said, "Coach Dawkins is a really good coach. I understand him and we are on the same page. We get a lot done when we are together and we have big things for the future."
