Who's Back?
Lamont Crittendon has racked up 91 tackles in his three years with Murray State. The Decatur, Alabama native had 63 tackles in 2016, as well as three pass defenses and one blocked kick.
Crittendon said, "We can finally put the pads on after a long hard offseason. I think the excitement is definitely there. After the first practice, we came into the locker room and had a party. Everybody is ready to work."
Marico Paige joined the Racers after spending time at Copiah-Lincoln CC. Paige had 54 total tackles in the 2016 season with two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 16-yards.
Paige said, "I think from last year we have a closer bond and that carried over to this year and we really motivate each other when we are out there doing drills. We correct each other and are coming strong together and we are playing together, so we are looking very good right now."
Others that will return for the Racers include, Quincy Williams, Sean Rodriguez, Jordan Tyler, Derrick Shaw and Chase Boling.
Who's Gone?
Jonathan Jackson spent four years at MSU and had a total of 307 tackles, with six pass deflections, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and 6.0 sacks for a 23-yard loss.
Paige said, "He played hard every snap, he always had willingness effort and he helped me coming in to know the plays."
Who's in Charge?
Jake Johnson came to the Racers in the spring of 2016 and is entering his second season in charge of the MSU linebacker corps.
Crittendon added, "Out of all the linebacker coaches I've had, he is able to relate to the players the best. He understands the game from both sides so he knows how the linebacker is supposed to maneuver around his former position, the offensive line.
