Who's New?
Kenney Wooten joins the Racers this spring from Itawamba CC. He played in 19 games in the two seasons with the Indians and helped the team finish 19th in the final national rankings in 2016. Wooten recorded 31 tackles as a sophomore and 18 as a freshman at Itawamba CC. The Meridian, Mississippi native had 5.5 sacks for ICC with 46 yards of loss. He had three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Defensive Line coach Kevin Park said, "Kenney Wooten has a lot of energy and is a very explosive player. I am very excited to see what he can do."
Who's Back?
Chris Stahl returns to the Racers for his sophomore year. The St. Louis, Missouri appeared in ten games last season and had eight tackles and one sack for a loss of seven yards.
Silas Owens returns to Murray State for his junior year. The New Market, Alabama native has racked up 27 tackles in his two years at MSU. Along with the tackles, Owens has one interception for 36-yards and two sacks for a loss of five yards.
Troy-Wayne Quinn joined the Racers for the 2016 season after two seasons at New Mexico Military Institute. During his first year with the Racers, he recorded 21 total tackles for a loss of 33-yards. Quinn also had a pass deflection, a force fumble, and 4.5 total sacks for a loss of 31 yards.
Other Racers that are returning for spring football include Robert Adams, Wyatt Dawson, Michael Magochy, Dee Nalls, Quindarius Coles, Kameron Petty, Griffin Martin, Ryan Duvall, Korey Tillman and Rashad Johnson.
Park said, "Everybody on our depth chart has played before. The look in their eyes are different, their approach is different as they know what is going to come."
Who's Gone?
Zuri Elrington joined the Racers after playing two years at West Los Angeles. While with MSU, Elrington recorded 30 tackles with four sacks for a 22-yard loss. During the 2016 season, he had 23 tackles and had a season high of five tackles at Tennessee Tech. Elrington had one forced fumble and two quarterback hurries in the last season.
Park said, "Elrington was productive for us last year and we are going to miss him as far as the line goes. But we have some guys who are stepping up to their ability and so I think we will be okay."
