Game 1 – Murray St. 11, Tennessee St. 3 (6 Inn.)
In game one, the two teams traded runs back and forth in the opening frames. Taylor Odom helped the Racers strike first in the first inning when she hit a solo shot to left center to make it 1-0 Murray State.
Tennessee State would go on to tie the game in third on a RBI-fielder's choice by Patton Akers, only to have Murray State take back the lead, at 3-1, on a sacrifice bunt from Cayla Levins and an error by the Tigers in the fourth. The lead did not last long, however, as TSU got RBIs from Akers and Danica Gleason to knot the game at three in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Racers added two more runs before Maggie Glass made it 9-3 by belting the 16th grand slam in Murray State history. The homer was the 31st of Glass' career, the second most all-time, but it was her first grand slam, making her just the 11th player in MSU history to accomplish the feat.
After holding Tennessee State in the top of the sixth, Murray State ended the game via the eight-run rule in the bottom thanks to a triple by Jessica Twaddle and a sacrifice fly from Jocelynn Rodgers.
Mason Robinson picked up her 21st win of the season in the circle in the game, marking the most wins in a single-season by a Racer hurler. She allowed one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks over five complete innings. Amber Van Duyse tossed the final inning for MSU and gave up no runs on one hit with a strikeout.
Twaddle led MSU in the game by going 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and a RBI, while Levins finished with two RBIs and was 1-for-2 with a run.
Game 2 – Murray St. 4, Tennessee St. 0
The day's finale was the exact opposite of the first game with neither team able to get much offense going. Through the first five innings, TSU was only able to get four hits off of Murray State's Haven Campbell, while Tennessee State's Lauren Woodard only gave up three.
However, in the sixth, Murray State's bats came alive and it began with a triple from Kaylee Ranburger. Two plays later Ranburger broke the tie when she was scored on a single through the left side by Jocelynn Rodgers. After Taylor Odom was hit by a pitch and Cayla Levins singled to load the bases, Maggie Glass made it 3-0 with a single up the middle that scored two. Levins then capped the scoring at 4-0 in the next at bat, when she stole home on a double steal with Glass.
In the seventh, despite a walk, Campbell was able to retire the side to give MSU the 4-0 win. Campbell moved to 11-7 on the year with the shutout win, allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk over a complete game effort. Ranburger finished game two by going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, to go along with one run.
Murray State will return to action on Saturday and Sunday with OVC doubleheaders at Eastern Illinois and SIUE, respectively.
