Who's New?
Josh Young joins the Racers after transferring from Pikeville where he played baseball. The Caldwell County native will be a junior this fall. Murray State wide receivers coach Casey Brockman said, "He's a local guy that will be really good for us in the future. He did some really good things when he was in high school two years ago." Montell Austin makes the jump from a Murray State student to a MSU football player. Brockman said, "He has been in school here for two years and wanted to come out and I'm really impressed with him this spring so I'm excited to see what he can do."
Who's Back?
Jordon Gandy is a rising senior out of Athens, Alabama. Gandy has appeared in 29 games over the past three years at Murray State and has racked up 1,111 yards on 70 receptions. Gandy had a breakout year in 2016 that saw him tally 976 yards on 62 catches with a team-high 11 touchdowns. During his junior season, the 2016 All-OVC first-team selection, averaged 88.7 yards per game and 15.7 yards per catch.
Gandy said, "I try to work hard and I have a lot of things to try to improve on, like my flexibility so I can get faster."
Senior L.J. Gainey added, "I think we have all worked pretty hard but someone that I have noticed who has been working hard this offseason is Jordon Gandy. Gandy definitely took it to another level in the offseason and in the workouts." Last season, his first at MSU Gainey, had 93 yards and 16 receptions after transferring Fullerton College. Gainey said, "I feel like moving to the inside compliments my game a little bit better with me possessing quickness."
Jonathan Moss recorded 266 yards on 28 receptions in his freshman season at Murray State. The Madison, Alabama native averaged 24.2 yards per game and 9.5 yards per catch. A man of many talents, Demetric Johnson moves back to wide receiver for the spring of 2017. Over his years at MSU, Johnson has accumulated 31 receptions for 388 yards as a receiver, and 104 carries for 279 yards as a running back and 29 tackles as a defensive back.
Others that are returning for the Racers include Tyre Gray, Andre Davis, Caleb Sheffer, Sylvaughn Turner, Rajai Perkins, and Jensen Feggins. The MSU receiving corps has gone through months in the weight room and looks to prove that the hard work in the offseason can improve their game in the spring and fall.
Coach Casey Brockman added, "Just four months in the weight room and one year of developing can make the world of a difference."
Who's Gone?
Jesse Blackburn ended his career with MSU in 2016, after being named as a first-team All-OVC selection following the season The tight end from Gardendale, Alabama recorded 2,105 yards on 168 catches and 11 touchdowns. Blackburn averaged 47.8 yards per game and 12.5 yards per catch.
Malik Golson transferred from Delaware State at the beginning of the 2016 season. During his single season with the Racers, Golson recorded 26 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns as well as 208 yards on 15 kick returns. Mitch Stults had 57 receptions for 477 yards during his four years at MSU. He averaged 23.4 yards per game his senior season and had two touchdowns on the year.

Who's in Charge?
As a player, Casey Brockman had a lot of success as the quarterback of the Racers, now in his third year as a full-time coach with the Racers, he looks to help the wide receivers find some success as well.
Brockman feels that the main focus for this group during spring ball is playing with a fast tempo, being at pad level and physicality. He is excited to see those who were freshman this past season playing again as they have worked really hard in the offseason and added weight and muscles without losing speed.
Brockman said, "We are just doing the little things right now, like slowly working in plays and focusing on tempo. Something else we are working on getting better at this spring is controlling the small stuff that ends up turning into big stuff along the way and later into the season."
