7/18/2017 7:58:00 AM | General
It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Indeed, a photo also has a story that goes with it.
The 2016-17 school year was another outstanding campaign for the Murray State Racers as it produced many instances of individual and team success.
As the next go around is nearing, enjoy looking back to some of the best moments that were caught on camera.

Murray State outfielder Ryan Perkins made a great catch (March 18, 2017) in the second game of the Racers'  series with  Austin Peay at Reagan Field. (Photos by: Dave Winder)

Jonathan Stark had an amazing OVC Tournament in which he made a run at the event scoring mark. He finished with 89 points, just shy of the 99 scored by Austin Peay's Bubba Wells in 1997 and Kyle Hill of EIU in 2001. Stark's 41-point game in a double overtime win over Tennessee Tech in the first game (March 1, 2017) was the seventh game of 40-plus points in MSU history and it was the second-highest for the Racers in the OVC Tournament, one point from Isaac Spencer's 42 points in a tournament game at the CFSB Center in 2001. Director of Athletics Allen Ward announced the hiring of Rechelle Turner (March 29, 2017) as the 12th head coach in Murray State women's basketball program history. Racer 1 is a really special pony!  In the fall of 2016, the tradition of Racer 1 at Murray State was carried out once again by jockey Kelsey Hathaway.  In this photo on homecoming day, Kelsey took Racer 1 around the track at Stewart Stadium after a MSU touchdown. See more photos from Racer 1 here.  Ride with Kelsey around the track at homecoming. The Racer 1 tradition explained. (Photo by: Dave Winder)

Racer fans were thrilled at the high flying dunk ability of senior Damarcus Croaker.  It seemed like he had a poster dunk nearly every game. This one at the CFSB Center against Eastern Kentucky (Jan, 19, 2017) was a great one indeed. Croaker scored 23 points in MSU's 86-79 win over the Colonels and tied his career-best with 10 made field goals. Here's another great dunk from Damarcus. (Photo by Curt Hart)
