Edwards Challenges For Lead At EKU Intercollegiate

Avery Edwards led the Murray State men's golf squad Saturday at the EKU Intercollegiate with a spot in sixth place at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Kentucky.

The sophomore Edwards fired rounds of 72-67=139 to get a spot in sixth place in the field of 90 competitors after the first 36 holes. Edwards starts Sunday's final round only three shots off the lead of Ball State's Johnny Watts (65-71=136) and Blake Prince (67-69=136) of Cleveland State.

Other Murray State scores and places included a 23rd place position for Gabe Wheeler on rounds of 72-70=142. Austin Knight was in 59th place after scores of 72-76=148, while Justin Wendling was in 81st place on scores of 76-77=153. Lance Davis had rounds of 77-80=157 and was in 84th place.

Freshman Connor Coombs is in the event for the Racers as an individual. He was in 67th place overall and was seventh among 10 individuals after rounds of 76-73=149.

The Racers were 14th in the team standings after scores of 292-290=582.

Sunday's final round begins at 7:30 a.m. Central Time.
