Racers Host 14th MSU Invitational Monday

The Murray State men's golf team begins the fall portion of the 2017-18 season by hosting the MSU Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray.

The event schedule calls for 36 holes of play on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.

Including the Racers, the event will have 14 teams with a good group of Ohio Valley Conference teams including the Racers, Austin Peay, Morehead State, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin. Bethel (TN), Chicago State, Evansville, Green Bay, John A. Logan, Missouri Baptist, Southern Indiana and Western Illinois are also part of the competition.

The Racers' starting five includes their only upperclassmen, juniors Lance Davis and Gabe Wheeler, and three sophomores, Avery Edwards, Austin Knight and Justin Wendling. Additionally, sophomore Cole Manion will play as an individual as will freshmen Connor Coombs, Rhett Cardwell and Quinn Eaton.

2016 champion Southern Illinois isn't in the field, but runner-up UT Martin is. SIU won it a year ago with a 4-shot win over the Skyhawks. The Racers are looking for their first title since 2015 and their 11^th title in the 14 years the event has been held. The 2016 medalist was Green Bay's Joe Duchateau who carded scores of 71-66-67=204.
