Murray State's D.J. Penick was named as the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Sunday marking the second time in as many weeks that the Racers have won a weekly award from the league.
Penick rushed for 180 yards on 22 carries with three touchdowns in Murray State's 48-41 win over Eastern Illinois, marking the most rushing yards for a Racer since 2011. His final score of the game with 26 seconds left, a two-yard run, sealed the game for the Racers. His 180 yards was part of a record-breaking rushing night for the Racers where they set a new single-game mark with 449 rushing yards. The win moved Murray State to 2-0 in the OVC for the first time since 2013.
In addition to the league honor, Penick was also named as the OVC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Murray State returns to action Saturday at home against Tennessee State.
