Racers Solid Against Ole Miss
11/17/2018 10:13:00 PM | Rifle
The fifth-ranked Murray State rifle team turned in a solid performance in its last match of 2018, defeating No. 11 Ole Miss, 4692-4650.
Senior Barbara Schläpfer once again led the Racers with a match-high 1179, while fellow senior MacKenzie Martin returned from international competition to finish just one point behind at 1178. Martin fired a match-high 586 in smallbore and used a season-high 582 in air rifle finish with a season-best aggregate of 1178. Meanwhile, Schläpfer led all shooters with a 596 air rifle to go along with a 583 smallbore and an 1179 aggregate.
Junior Shelby Huber was also solid for Murray State going 580 in smallbore and 584 in air rifle for a total of 1164. Senior Alathea Sellars used a 568 smallbore and a 590 air rifle to finish at 1158, while freshman Anna Scheer shot above her average on the day with an 1163 aggregate from a 576 smallbore and a 587 air rifle.
The match could have also been dubbed the "Battle of the Buesselers", as sophomore Dana Buesseler shot against her twin sister Abby, who shoots for the Rebels. Although that battle was a tie, as the twins shot the exact same scores in both smallbore (578) and air rifle (586) to finish, each, with an 1174 aggregate.
The Racers will now take time to finish finals and train before returning to action January 19 at Jacksonville State.
