Racers Take To The Desert To Open Spring Season

Round 1 Results
The Murray State men's team got the spring golf season going Sunday with a scheduled 36-hole day in the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club, on the Palms Course, in in Goodyear, Arizona.
However, the field of 19 teams will have to complete the second round on Monday, after darkness shut down play late Sunday. The field of 18 teams will decide a champion on Monday with the final 18 after.
The Racers fired a first round 4-under 284 and had a spot in 14th place with Drake, two shots ahead of fellow OVC team UT Martin (286) and ahead of Army (292). College of Charleston was the leader after a 270, with Hartford (272), UConn (276), Seton Hall (277) and Air Force and Loyola (MD) (278) making up the top-6.
Murray State's Avery Edwards and Gabe Wheeler each had the low round of the opening day for the Racers with a 2-under par 70 and they shared a spot in 29th place in the field of 106 competitors. Lance Davis had a 71 and was in 43rd place, while Austin Knight was in 64th place with a 73 and Connor Coombs carded a 78 and was in 96th position.
