Knight Leads Racers at USF Invitational

The Murray State men's golf team began play at the USF Invitational with 36 holes of play at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club in Tampa, Florida.

The Racers carded scores of 319-312=631 and had a spot in ninth place in the field of 11 teams. The Racers were ahead of Stetson (637) and Florida A&M (648) and just behind eighth place George Mason (628) and seventh place Cleveland State (624).

Sophomore Austin Knight led the way in 36 holes of opening day play with rounds of 79-75=154 to gain a spot in 20^th place in the field of 66 competitors. Avery Edwards had scores of 78-79=157 and was in 30^th place, while Gabe Wheeler was in 39^th position after posting scores of 810-79=159. Lance Davis had scores of 82-79=161 and was in 46^th place, with Connor Coombs in 59^th place on scores of 85-84=169.

Murray State's Justin Wendling is among 11 individuals in the field and was second among them after carding the low score of the day for MSU with an even-par 72 in the morning round. He had an 81 in the afternoon for a total score of 153 and was in 16^th place overall.

Host South Florida was the leader after two rounds at 580, with Southern Illinois (602), Florida Atlantic (605), Florida Gulf Coast (619) and Delaware (621) making up the top-5.

The final round will begin Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.

The course at Tampa Palms is playing to a par of 72 and a distance of 7,004 yards.
