Racers Come Up Short in Game Two at APSU

The Murray State baseball team came up short Saturday afternoon in Clarksville, Tenn., falling to Austin Peay 8-7 in game two of the series.

For the second day in a row, the Racers (10-9, 2-3 OVC) got off to a quick start in the top of the first via a two-run home run. Davis Sims' two-out homer to left, brought home Ramsey Scott who got on the previous at-bat via error. The home run was Sims' third of the season.

After the Governors (12-7, 4-1 OVC) tied the game with a run in the first and second innings, the Racers regained the lead via another two-out hit as Mike Farnell singled to center field to bring home both Scott and Sims to put MSU up 4-2. However, in the bottom half of the inning, APSU took the lead for the first time and for good as they scored three runs to go up 5-4.

In the fifth, the Govs pushed their lead to 7-4 with a pair of runs. In the sixth, the two teams both scored a run, MSU's came via an RBI groundout by Jaron Robinson as the Racers trailed 8-5 after six. MSU was able to get within one run in the eighth as Gavin Wehby hit a two-run home run, his second of the season. It was not enough as the Racers went three-up and three-down in their last chance in the ninth inning.

Sims and Wehby both led the Racers in the loss with three-hit days at the plate. Sims scored three runs on the day. Farnell went 2-of-4 at the plate. All three players had two RBIs each against the Govs. Both teams had nine hits on the day.

Blake Clynes took his first loss of the season as he got the start for MSU. Clynes went 2.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits. Braydon Cook pitched 5.2 innings of relief in game two. He struck-out five and allowed three runs.

MSU looks to salvage the series Sunday in the finale. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
