Racer Lefties Rule The Day At Boca Raton

Murray State men's golfers Connor Coombs and Austin Knight were part of a group 25 players in the field of 113 players to post dub-par scores in round one at the FAU Slomin Autism Championship in Boca Raton, Florida.

Coombs a freshman and Knight a sophomore, each carded 1-under-par 71 scores to share a spot in 18^th place at Osprey Point Golf Club.

The Racers had a 293 team score and were in 12^th place in the field of 18 teams ahead of Hofstra (297), DePaul (298) and North Dakota State (298) and just behind 11^th place Oakland (292) and 10^th place Florida Atlantic, the host of this event.

Other Murray State scores included Lance Davis in 65^th place after a 75 and Justin Wendling and Gabe Wheeler each with a 76 and a spot in 78^th place.

Connecticut was the first round leader at 273, ahead of second place Lynn (281) and third place Houston Baptist (282). The rest of the top-9 teams included Georgetown (285), Florida Gulf Coast (287), Bethune-Cookman (288), Hartford and Stetson (289) and Jacksonville State (290).

Murray State's first shot of the second round Saturday will be taken by Gabe Wheeler at 11:45 a.m. Central Time. The Racers will be paired with Oakland, FAU and JSU.

Osprey Point is playing to a length of 6,786 yards and to a par of 72.

The medalist leader after 18 holes was UConn's Jimmy Hervol who carded an 8-under-par 64. He has a two-shot lead on Hartford's Ambrose Abbracciamento who shot a 66.
