Coombs & Knight Lead The Way For Racers

The Murray State men's golf team shaved five shots off of their first round score and passed two teams to move up to a share of ninth place in the field of 19 teams at the FAU Slomin Autism Championship in Boca Raton, Florida.

Heading into Sunday's final round, the Racers have carded scores of 293-288=581 and stand tied for ninth place with Georgetown and are ahead of host Florida Atlantic (582) and DePaul and Monmouth (590). MSU trails Oakland and Florida Gulf Coast who share seventh place at 579 and sixth-place Hartford at 577.

MSU's Connor Coombs and Austin Knight moved up one spot to 17^th place to lead the Racers after each had carded scores of 71-72=143. Lance Davis moved up 37 spots from 65^th place to 28^th with a second round 72 to go with a first round 75. MSU's Justin Wendling was in 71^st place after scores of 76-74=150 and Gabe Wheeler had rounds of 76-80=156 and was in 95^th place.

Lynn (554) took the lead from Connecticut (558), with the rest of the top-5 consisting of Houston Baptist (565), Jacksonville State (569) Bethune-Cookman (575).

The field of 113 players is playing an Osprey Point layout that is 6,786 yards and a par of 72.

The medalist leader after 36 holes was UConn's Jimmy Hervol who carded 64-67=131.
