The Game
The Murray State softball team begins its final stretch of the season with a pair of doubleheaders at Racer Field against Eastern Illinois and SIUE Saturday and Sunday, followed by a trip to Morehead Tuesday.
Last Time Out
The Racers put together their longest winning streak of the season by sweeping doubleheaders at Belmont and Tennessee State. Erika Downey powered Murray State with a .643 average over the four games, while Logan Braundmeier and Lillie Goetz followed at .538 and .467, respectively. Haven Campbell appeared in three of the four games in the circle for Murray State going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 12 strikeouts.
The Eastern Illinois Series
The Racers split with the Panthers last season and now trail the all-time series, 17-10. The Racers are also 3-6 all-time against Eastern Illinois at home.
Scouting The Panthers
EIU is currently 29-15 on the year and 8-6 in OVC play after losing each of their last four games. Haley Mitchell currently leads the Panthers' offense with a .435 average, while the team is currently batting .286. Game two against Tennessee State marked just the second time in program history that two separate players have had four hits each with Lillie Goetz and Erika Downey each tallying four in the contest. The first time was March 20, 2016 when Leah Kesel and Shelbey Miller accomplished the feat at SEMO.
