The Murray State Racers improved by five shots in the second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championship Madison Regional and set a couple of school records and one Ohio Valley Conference record in the process. The Racers take a 16th place standing into Wednesday's final round at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Â
Seeded No. 16 coming into their fifth NCAA appearance, the Racers have carded team scores of 307-302=609 and trailed 15th place Idaho (603) by six shots and 14th place Notre Dame (596) by 13 shots. MSU leads 17th place North Dakota State (613) by four shots and IUPUI (620) by 11 strokes.
Â
The Racers' 609 bested the OVC record for the low 36 holes at the NCAA Tournament of 611 by Eastern Kentucky in 2015. The Racer's 609 is better than the 614 they shot in 2017 as the MSU program record. MSU tied their program record single round mark at the NCAA with a 302, matching their 2017 score in Lubbock, Texas. Jacksonville State's 301 from 2007 still stands as the OVC's best at the NCAA Tournament for 36 holes.
Â
Murray State's Anna Moore continued to pace the Racers with a spot in 52nd place on scores of 73-75=148. Starting from the 10th hole, Moore got off to a hot start with three birdies in her first four holes. Moa Folke was in 77th place on rounds of 77-77=154. Raeshya Surendran had scores of 80-75=155 and was in 82nd place, while Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria and Linette Holmslykke shared 86th place. Puente Rodriguez carded scores of 82-75=157 and Holmslykke had scores of 77-80=157.
Â
Duke jumped past Virginia for the lead with the final round coming Wednesday in Madison. Duke carded a 9-under-par 279 and had a total score of 562, eight shots ahead of Virginia (580) after they posted a 291. The rest of the top-5 teams included Southern California (573), Arizona State and Oregon State (574) and in sixth place it was a tie at 577 between Illinois, Northwestern and Ohio State. The top-6 teams will advance to the NCAA finals, so there should be plenty of drama in store for Wednesday's final round as
Â
The Racers will again be paired with IUPUI and North Dakota State in the third day of the event. Their first tee time is at 9:39 a.m. CT.

University Ridge Golf Course
University Ridge derives its name from the landscape features left by the last retreating glacier. The course sits on the terminal moraine, where the Wisconsin Glacier stopped, forming the backbone of the ridge that separates the land into groups of rolling hills and valleys. The natural ridge dictated course construction and the designers followed the contours of the land to create a natural setting that overlooks the City of Madison.
With five sets of tees ranging from 5,005 to 7,289 yards, University Ridge offers something for players of every ability level. The wide open front nine rolls through a preserved prairie and marshland, while the first six holes of the back nine are cut out of a dense Wisconsin woodland. The course opens up again at the 554-yard signature 16th hole, which features three fairways and 16 bunkers. The 18th is the perfect finishing hole as a climb of 182 feet between woodland and prairie is required to complete the 443-yard par 4. University Ridge is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program which promotes protecting water quality, conserving natural resources, and providing wildlife habitats. The Ice Age Trail, one of eight National Scenic Trails in the U.S., also runs through a portion of the golf course.
