Racers Kickoff 2018 At OVC Media Day

Murray State's 2018 football season had its unofficial kickoff Monday at the annual OVC Media Day in Nashville, Tennessee.
Head coach Mitch Stewart and redshirt senior linebacker Quincy Williams and redshirt junior wide receiver Jensen Feggins represented the Racers and took questions from local and league-wide media. Two of the main themes of the day were the influx of new talent and coaches to the Racers and the closeness and of the 2018 edition of the Murray State football team.
All three Racers emphasized the fact that this year's team that has already developed a chemistry and closeness that most team don't achieve until the latter part of the season. Another positive that was talked about was the two experienced quarterbacks MSU will have in their arsenal in redshirt senior Shuler Bentley and senior transfer Drew Anderson.
The day began with redshirt junior kicker Gabriel Vicente and senior defensive lineman Kenney Wooten being named to the 2018 Preseason All-OVC team.
In his first season of organized football, Vicente made the transition from soccer to football seamlessly. The Miami, Florida native went 14-for-18 in field goal attempts including making Murray State's first 50-plus yarder, 52 to be exact, since 2002. He was also 23-for-24 in PAT attempts on the year and led the team in scoring with 65 points.
Wooten led the OVC with 10.0 sacks on the season and was ninth in the FCS in sacks per game at 0.91. He also had 32 tackles, 11.0 tackles-for-loss for a total of 68 yards, two forced fumbles and six quarterback hurries.
