Murray State head men's and women's cross country coach Adam Kiesler has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2018 season that features meets where the Racers have ran before as well as a couple of new races.
"We wanted to put together a meet schedule that would give the student-athletes the best competition and allow us to execute different racing strategies as we prepare for the OVC Championships," said assistant coach Jordan Wallace, who is the primary coach for the Racers long distance runners.
The season begins on the last day of August when the Racers travel to Carbondale to compete in the Salukis Early Bird Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois.
After a weekend off, the Racers travel to Evansville on September 15, to race in the Stegemoller Classic hosted by Southern Indiana for the second year in a row. Senior Ida Mutai is the top returning runner from last year's race, as she finished eighth en route to helping the women to a fifth-place finish.
On September 29, Murray State will go to Louisville for the second straight year to compete against some of the top teams in the nation in the Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park, home of last year's National Championship meet.
"We are returning to the Stegemoller Classic which mimics the size and competitiveness of our conference meet and the athletes always love competing at the Greater Louisville Classic against some of the top talent in the country," said Wallace.
The Racers wrap up the regular season on October 13, when they return to Evansville to compete in the UE Invitational hosted by the University of Evansville.
The Ohio Valley Conference Championships will take place on October 27, at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau.
