8/28/2018 11:22:00 AM | Women's Golf
Murray State freshman women's golf student-athlete Payton Carter was simply trying out new irons recently when she hit her first career hole-in-one
at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Ky.
Â
Carter, from Henderson, Ky., used a 6-iron from 165 yards and aced Miller Memorial's par-3 No. 9 hole on August 23, 2018. Her tee shot hit inside 10 feet in front of the hole and rolled in.
Â
"I was going out to test my new irons and was only playing the first, second, eighth and ninth holes. When I got to No. 9, I hit a 6-iron and didn't know that it went in until I looked in the hole."
Â
Carter comes to Murray State from Henderson County High School where she had a decorated prep career playing for MSU Hall of Famer Coach Jessica Grace. As a senior in 2017, Carter won the Kentucky High School Athletics Association Region-II championship and advanced to the KHSAA State Tournament.
Â
The Racers have been going through qualifying in advance of the start of the fall season. MSU's first challenge of five events this fall is in Springfield, Missouri (Sept. 10-11) at the Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State at Twin Oaks Country Club.
