Wheeler Paces Racers At SIUE Dolenc Invitational

Murray State men's golfer Gabe Wheeler came home with a 27th place spot to lead the Racers at the 2018 Derek Dolenc Invitational, hosted by SIUE at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois.

Wheeler fired rounds of 71-74-74=219 while the Racers came home with scores of 300-304-297=901 and a spot in 14th place as they passed Northern Iowa (902) in the final round. Other MSU scores and places included Dalton Bagwell in 51st place on scores of 75-77-73=225 and Connor Coombs in 66th place on scores of 78-77-73=228. Justin Wendling had scores of 76-76-77=229 for a spot in 71st place, while Quinn Eaton carded scores of 80-83-83=251 and placed 93rd.

Rhett Cardwell was in the event as an individual and placed 81st on scores of 77-84-71=232. His even-par 71 in the final round tied Wheeler for low round for the team in the three rounds of play.

Host SIUE won their home event with a score of 842, ahead of Omaha (854), IWCC (956), UT Martin (858) and Bradley (859). SIUE's Kyle Slattery was the medalist on scores of 71-65-67=203.

Gateway National played to a length of 7,092 yards and to a par of 71.

The fall season continues for the Racers (Oct. 1-2) at the UTM Skyhawk Classic played at beautiful Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, Tennessee.
