Big performances on the road helped Evelyn Adebayo and Macey Turley of the Murray State women's basketball team earn Newcomer and Freshman of the Week honors, respectively, from the Ohio Valley Conference Tuesday.
Adebayo averaged a double-double for the second straight week with her seventh and eighth double-double of the season. The transfer had 25 points and 12 rebounds in the loss at UT Martin, followed by 15 and 10 at Southeast Missouri. Adebayo was 11-for-16 from the free throw line on the week, which all came against UT Martin.
Turley did not play like a freshman this week, scoring 11 against UT Martin and a career-high 32 points at Southeast Missouri. Turley's 32 at SEMO made her just the fourth freshman in program history to score 30 or more points in a single game. She was an impressive 61.9-percent from the floor on the week, including 9-for-14 Saturday. Against SEMO, she was 11-for-12 from the charity stripe to finish at 14-for-16 on the week. In addition, she dished out nine assists on the week, with six of those coming in her big game against the Redhawks.
For Adebayo, Tuesday's honor marked the fifth time this season that she had been named Newcomer of the Week, while Turley has now been named Freshman of the Week four times.
Adebayo, Turley and the rest of the Racer return to action this weekend to close out a four-game road trip with a pair of matinees. On Thursday, Murray State travels to Eastern Illinois for a Noon tip-off, followed by a 2 p.m. tussle at SIUE Saturday.
